    Summer Crafts for Kids

They kids are out of school and looking for something to do. You need some summer crafts for kids to keep them busy! The following crafts are specifically for the summer. Be sure to see our Holiday crafts for summer holiday craft ideas.

    Fun Fans
    Cardboard
    Crayons or magic markers
    Scissors
    Transparent tape
    Typing or notebook paper

Place your barefoot or hand on piece of cardboard and trace. You can also use other things to trace or make your own designs (should be the size of a fan). Cut out shape and color both sides. Roll a sheet of paper into a tight tube to make a handle. Tape tube closed, tape one end to the fan. Your ready to keep cool!

    Summer Collages
    Cardboard
    Glue
    Nature Items

Let the kids pick up all kinds of items they see in the backyard and the neighborhood, such as grass clippings, seeds, leaves, and so on. Basically whatever they find while playing outside. They might also want to use glitter glue to add a special touch to their collages.

    Tin Can Vase
    An old can
    Paint
    Decorations
    Flowers

Find a good sized tin can to be used for the vase (you can also use an old jar). Let the kids decorate them whatever way they want, including special small decorations. Things like small gems, stickers, and so on make for good decorations. Go outside and pick some flowers for your new vase!

    Decorated Sprinkler
    Old garden hose
    Paint (outdoor paint works best)
Clay or other material to plug one end
    Knife

Since you'll be using a knife, parental supervision is required. Summer crafts for kids just have to be done outside because the weather is so nice, so put on your swimming suits and let's get started!

First thing you'll want to do is stop the water from coming out of the hose. If you have an old sprayer you can attach to the end this will work too (we actually had to get a new hose BECAUSE of the old sprayer was rusted on and broken).

Now hook up the hose to your outside water faucet and start making holes. You'll want the water turned on to make sure the holes you are making will work the way they should, making them bigger if need be. Start small because you can always make them bigger but not smaller!

Once you have your sprinkler working the way you want it to, let the kids decorate it with paint and other outdoor decorations.

    Homemade Water Slide

    You'll need:
Small kids pool (no matter if there are holes)
    Water hose
Swingset with slide in your backyard

This is more of an activity than summer kids crafts, but it's entertaining just the same. To set it up you'll first need an small kids pool to put under the slide. We use an old thin plastic one that has holes. The idea is not neccessarily to hold a lot of water, just enough to slide into.

Next take your hose and wrap it around the handle attached to the slide. Angle it so the water goes mostly down the slide. We also put a small wading pool next to the slide that catches the water coming down the other side (saves on the water bill when we are entertaining the kids AND filling up another pool at the same time). Have fun!
